  1. Lesson 3-2 Volcanic Activity (Part 1) Arely Galvan Laisa Sanchez Luz Lugo 12/11/ 07

  2. Magma chamber&Pipe • An underground cavity it contains magma below a volcano • A tube were magma comes through that moves from chamber to chamber

  3. Vent & Lava flow • An opening where gas leaves a volcano • Is lava that pours down a volcano

  4. Silica & Pahoehoe • Is a material formed by the elements of oxygen and silica • Lava that hardens and forms a smooth surface

  5. Aa & Pyroclastic flow • Solidified lava with rough jagged surface with sharp angular • Expulsion of ash, cinders, bombs, and gases during a explosive eruption

  6. Inside a Volcano • Magma is inside a pocket beneath the surface and two or more crack, magma forces its way out.At the top of a volcano there is a central vent.

  7. How magma reaches the surface • Lava begins as magma in side the mantle. Magma forms in the asthenosphere which it lies under the lithosphere. Magma comes out and finds cracks which is now called lava. When a volcano erupts gases dissolves and the magma take it with them.

  8. Characteristics of magma • Silica is form from elements of oxygen silicon . Magma that is high silica produces light colors lava and it is too sticky. Silica flows readily and produces dark lava.

  9. Types of volcanic Eruptions • Silica contact magma it helps to determine whether volcanic eruption will be quit or explosive.Gas dissolved bubbles in the magma and the bubbles comes out gently. Hawaii and Iceland were formed by a quiet eruption. Mount Kilauea was build up as the big island over hundred thousand of years.Pahoehoe is fast moving lava.Aa is slower moving lava.

  10. What we Learned • We learned, when magma gets out of a volcano it is called lava. When magma is less dense it surrounds solid material, it flows into any cracks above rock. Most volcanoes are made from quiet eruptions. Another thing we learned was that most volcanoes in Hawaii are explosive than others.
