ASIAN 150 “Understanding the Chinese World” (GE)• Team taught by Chinese Studies faculty, including one linguist, one geographer, two historians, one art historian, one political scientist and one Chinese philosopher. • Comprehensive introduction to history, culture, language, society and politics in mainland China, Taiwan and other Chinese-speaking communities.• Satisfies Asian Studies AND lower-division GE requirement.• Meets on Mondays, from 4:00-6:40 pm.
ASIAN 451 “Modern Asian Literature” (GE)• Focusing on modern Chinese literature, sampling the best Chinese writers since the early 20th century• Taught in English• Meets Asian Studies, Comparative Literature AND GE requirements• Taught by Alvin Wong from UCSD.Class meets on T/TH, from 12:30-1:45 pm.
POL S 496: Chinese Politics• Exclusively on politics of China and Taiwan• Domestic politics, foreign policy and global challenge of China’s rise• Taught by Dr. Lei Guang from Political Science and Asian StudiesQualifies for major credits in political science and Asian Studies.• Class meets on T/TH, from 9:30-10:45 am
