Innovative Sensors, Inc.pH Sensor Product Features • Patented1 Porous Teflon® Reference Junction • Patented2 Plunger pH Electrode Technology • High Pressure Bladder Design • Capillary TC Temperature Compensation • Single & Double Reference Junctions • TOP 68 Watertight Connector • Solution Ground Designs • Preamplifiers • Insertion, Flow-Through, or Submersion Mounting 1. U.S. Patent No. 4,128,468 2. U.S. Patent No. 4,333,812 ®Teflon is a Registered Trademark of E.I. Dupont de Nemours Co.
Innovative Sensors, Inc.Patented* Teflon® Reference Junction • Innovative Sensors, Inc. holds the Patent on the porous Teflon reference junction design. • The patented porous Teflon liquid junction provides a chemically inert, non-fouling, low impedance reference junction. A cutaway view of the M-11 pH sensor reveals the Teflon reference junction U.S. Patent No. 4,128,468 ®Teflon is a Registered Trademark of E.I. Dupont de Nemours Co.
Innovative Sensors, Inc. Patented* Plunger Technology • Glass bulbs without the Plunger have air bubbles that form on the inside of the pH sensitive glass when the sensor is not mounted 10° above horizon. Air bubbles at the pH sensitive glass causes erratic or erroneous readings. Mounting options are limited with this design • Innovative Sensors, Inc. Patented Plunger eliminates air bubbles and measuring problems. The black, rubber plunger holds the internal fill solution in place, no matter how the sensor is mounted. This allows for the customer to mount the sensor upside down or right side up while maintaining a steady pH signal. Also, this design has an added temp. shock and service benefit; the sensor has been tested to 150°C +. Also, the plunger compresses as the fill solution expands. Air bubbles in the glass * U.S. Patent No. 4,333,812
Innovative Sensors, Inc.High Pressure Bladder Design • Pressure bladders are the long, black pieces that the arrows are pointing to • Pressure bladders allow for the reference gel to expand/contract as the process temperature and pressure increases/decreases • Pressure bladders are found in all high temperature pH sensor versions
Innovative Sensors, Inc. Capillary TC Temperature Compensation • Common Embedded TC Design • TC is embedded in upper part of body • Slower Temperature Response • T95% up to 15 minutes • NEW Capillary TC Design! • TC is placed inside of pH bulb • Fast Temperature Response • T95% is less than 2 minutes
Innovative Sensors, Inc. Single & Double Reference Junctions Salt rings for added reference life Reference Billet • Above: A single junction sensor; typically used in labs • Below: A double junction sensor; typically used in harsh processes. All Innovative Sensors pH sensors can be built with the double junction design. Note that the front chamber has KNO3 which acts to screen the poisoning ions from the back chamber of KCl. Innovative Sensors, Inc.TOP 68 Watertight Connector • Waterproof and Corrosion Resistant • Connector • Cable gland • IP68 rating • Submersion at 3.28 ft of water at 122ºF for 7 days (168 hours) • Keyed Assembly • Made from PFA, a hydrophobic insulator that provides high impedance signal integrity • Eliminates • Rewiring sensor • Pulling cable through conduit when changing sensor
Innovative Sensors, Inc. Solution Ground Designs • Helps with analyzer diagnostic features • Picks up stray noise • Saves reference electrode from failing prematurely • Separate rod or built into sensor Solution Ground Sensor uses the metal body as the solution ground Solution ground rods can also be built into the plastic body sensors
Innovative Sensors, Inc. Preamplifiers • pH signal has high impedance • Typically 100 – 300 Megaohms • Preamps are found as separate units or built into combination sensor • At 25oC the pH electrode produces 59.16 mV per pH unit • Ohms Law • Voltage (E) / Resistance (R) = Current (I) • E/ R = I • 0.05916 / 100,000,000 = 0.000000001 Amps • A preamp is required for signal stability if the signal is sent to a unit which does not accept high impedance signals Shown above: a cutaway view of a M-11 pH sensor with a preamp laying by it’s side. This preamp is embedded inside the sensor. Preamps are also available separately.
Innovative Sensors for Insertion, Flow-Through, or Submersion Installations • Various thread size and placement for multiple mounting configuration • Other mounting styles are available including: • Ball Valve Retractable • Twist Lock • Sensors are chemically resistant due to Ryton (PPS) Body with Teflon reference junction • Other sensor materials available upon request Models M-11 and M-12 Models M-21 and M-22
