Look Me In The Eye By: Connor, Bisma, Tommy, Melis, Christine, Omar and Mandy
The Message • This play is used to show the reactions of various types of people under a totalitarian government system • Highlighted themes are Oppression (Ridiculous laws and punishments), desensitization and “brain-washing” (Vio and Rul), and the collapse of freedom (“Complicits” being executed)
Brief Character Contributions to the Message • Rea- The voice of reason in the group. Vio is fond of violence and chaos. Vio is too stupid to understand what’s going on. • Fea- Follows the government’s system out of fear of retribution. • Offence Officers Ash & Flint- Mindlessly follow the government’s orders, regardless of feelings.
Colour Choices • Grey and Black to represent the dreary environment that the corrupt government has created • It also gives a sense of hopelessness to the situation which accentuates what many of the characters are feeling
