Reading End of Grade test scores for Reading will be sent to the schools in the fall of 2008. Math All students: 70% White students: 86.0 % Black students: 56% Economically Disadvantaged: 100% Students with Disabilities: %100 2007-2008 Academic Test Scores…Third Grade

With No Child Left Behind, What Do These Scores Mean? • For 2008, each group ( All, white, black, economically disadvantaged) must have achieved • 88.4 %in each group for Reading • 77.2% in each group for Math to be considered proficient.
How Did Sherwood Perform? • When 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade scores are combined, our final scores were: • Math: • All: 70.8%...proficient • White: 79.8%...proficient • Black: 60.6%...proficient • Economically Disadvantaged: 62.6% • Students with Disabilities: 30%
What are we doing to improve? • Implementation of Response to Instruction • Guided Reading instruction in all classrooms • Usage of Saxon Phonics, Grades K-2
What are we doing to improve? • After School Academy will offer remediation and acceleration. • Staff Development that will focus on math and technology strategies for teachers to use in their classrooms. • Family Fun Nights offer a curriculum-themed focus.
What are we doing to improve? • Blumenthal/Arts Integration partnership continues. • Strong mentoring program continues. • High quality classroom instruction!!!!
Where do we go from here? WE NEED YOUR HELP! • Attendance • Communication with school • Supporting school policies • Supporting PTA • Read to your child! • Become a mentor, if possible!
Where do we go from here…The Bottom Line • Sherwood remains one of the top elementary schools in Gaston County. Our staff will continue to provide high quality instruction in a nurturing way to all of our students. Our school has been a leader in the county…..AND WILL CONTINUE TO LEAD!!!
