The Life And Death Of… By Abigail Elsey and Ophelia Murphy
Plot Summary • Over all this film will follow the journey of a young boy and his transition through adolescence, as he faces the typical struggles of teenage life. E.g. drug abuse and disagreements with parents and friends. • The characters name will be Charlie Bush, a well known bmxer in his area, who is a hit with the ladies and has a large group of close friends who are like most stereotypical teenagers; after thrills. • Throughout the film Charlie is faced with numerous confrontations, as he lives in a rough estate and dresses unconventionally and differently to his peers. • The film will end with his death. After an argument with his girlfriend, who has just discovered he is cheating on her, Charlie gets on his bike and is riding at a dangerous and careless speed towards her house. He cycles out into the middle of the road, with his earphones in, and is hit by a passing car. It is revealed that the driver of the passing car was his girlfriend, on her way to sort things out with him.
Title sequence ideas and Summary. • After some thought we have decided the title sequence will be the final part of the film, in which Charlie is struck by the car. Places we’d go will be around Chelmsford, fairly quiet streets. (Above is an example of a long shot type we wish to mimic, as we believe the shadow figure and wide landscape fit our title sequence well.)
Production and Distribution. We have decided that a low budget film would suit our genre best, as we will not need CGI, special effects or big name actors. Our film can be produced using basic editing skills. We feel as though our film would be best suited for Film4, a lottery funded film, and feel that the criteria for these lottery funded films is met by our production. E.g. this is a British made film, with British stars!
Actors • We have decided that due to the fact our film is a small scale production we would have to use low budget actors. • For our title sequence we needed someone with bmx skills to fit the character role, so chose an actor who could comply with the requirements. The actor we chose was Charlie Youngman, a friend who has appeared in various bmx videos. • OTHER ACTORS in the film would include almost entirely unknown actors and actresses, however similarly to other low budget films such as “Attack the Block” • Simon Pegg and Nick Frost would be ideal for this role, as they have appeared in several low budget films, such as “Hot Fuzz” and “Shaun of the Dead” and will bring a comedy aspect to the film. They will also help us to attract our target audience, after a line of successful and popular films.
Budget We decided that our film will be a low cost, consisting of unknown actors and limited editing effects. As our film is going to be based around the genre “drama” complying to the budget will be achievable. Our estimated figure would be £10,000,000. This will be an entirely British film, with British actors and locations.
Genre and Similar films Our chosen genre is “Drama”. We feel as though this genre gives us an opportunity to focus on several elements and issues, rather than just one (for example crime) However we will include elements of other genres to entertain our target audience. In attempt to fit in with and mimic our similar films we will use familiar locations, such as night clubs, the interior of houses and other teenage destinations. A similar tv series that our film will be a lot like is Skins.
Target Audience • Our personal peer group of 16-25 year olds is our chosen target audience, as we feel the controversial subject matters raised, along with the age of our actors, would make this film most relatable to them. To help us target our audience we will use Mise en Scene such as costume/clothing, props such as iPhones, cigarettes and recreational drug abuse, along with current music choices.
Production company • We have decided to name our production company “Rare Productions” and will create and develop a logo for this.
