Why We Must Forgive

1. Why We Must Forgive Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, “You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me.” (Matthew 18:32) Forgive – (apoluo) to free fully – relieve, release, dismiss, pardon; (aphiemi) to send forth – forgive, put away, forsake Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.” (Matthew 9:2)

God’s forgiveness is freely offered; obtained through faith that obeys • Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” 38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:37-38)

4. Colossians 3:12-13 • Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.

5. Ephesians 4:32 • And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you.

Do not even the tax collectors do the same?

For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you."

13. Luke 6:36-37 • Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful. 37 Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

14. Conclusion To err is human;to forgive, Divine. “Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.” (Matthew 5:48)
