Example of Testing Event Testing Event (ie. Road Scholar, Solar System, Anatomy, etc.) • Two student event • 50 minute test • Binder with all notes allowed in test • The two students work as team on test • Key for students is to work well together and create organized binder for test day!
Example of Building Event Student Teams build the device prior to competition and bring the device to competition to test it compared to all other school team devices • Mission Possible, Glider, Tower, Storm the Castle, Wheeled Vehicle • Teams of 2-3 studentsbuild the device (6 devices to build).
How Teams Work? • 15 Students maximum per team • 6 Teams or 15 = 90 Students from CVMS (15+15+15+15+15+15 = 90 students) • 23 Events covered by each group of 15 Students • Most events require 2 students maximum (some events call for 3 students such as Mission Possible & Balloon Race)
Student 1 (Anatamy, Awesome Aquifer, Balloon Race) Student 2 (Anatomy, Awesome Aquifer, Balloon Race) Student 3 (Anatomy, Awesome Aquifer, Balloon Race) Student 4 (Glider, Disease, Ecology, Food) Student 5 (Glider, Disease, Ecology) Student 6 (Food, Heredity, Meteorology, Metric, Mission Possible) Student 7 (Heredity, Meteorology, Metric, Mission Possible) Student 8 (Mission Possible, Oceanography) Student 9(Oceanography, Road Scholar, Rocks/Minerals) Student 10 (Rocks/Minerals, Crime Busters) Student 11 (Crime Busters, Science Word, Simple Machines, Storm the Castle) Student 12 (Science Word, Simple Machines, Storm the Castle, Solar System) Student 13 (Solar System, Tower Building, Wheeled Vehicle) Student 14 (Tower Building, Wheeled Vehicle, Write it/Do it) Student 15 (Write it/Do it) Team Example **15 students covering 23 events for maximum points to win. All 6 teams of 15 are doing the same thing. The highest score of one team is used for the school win!
SO Scheduling • Coaches chosen first • Students give their schedule on application, number of events they wish to do, and preferred event choices • We do our best to accommodate everyone, but ask for cooperation and TEAM WORK • Coaches set up schedules with their list of students
Coaches & Assistants • Head Coach per each event • Assistant Coaches per each event • Event Parents (like team mom) • Each coach will have12-18 students • Coaches and Assistants will set up meetings with the students (just like practice in sports) • Most coaches meet once a week
For Example Storm the Castle (Building Event) • Coach: Dave Morrin • Assistant Coach: TBD • Assistant Coach: TBD • Event Parents (all the parents of students) • Students: 6 teams (2 students per team) = 12 students total • Meetings: Every Sunday 3-6 PM • Six trebuchets will be tested at tournament
Sample Student Schedule Thursday 3:30-5:00 Solar System at coach home Saturday 8:00-10:00 Heredity at coach home Sunday 3:00-5:00 Storm the Castle at coaches home Sunday 7:00-8:30 Road Scholar at coach home
WAIT LIST • THERE WILL BE A WAIT LIST FOR STUDENTS WHO DO NOT MAKE THE TEAM • STUDENTS AND COACHES MAY BE ASKED TO LEAVE IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH COOPERATION, TEAMWORK, APPROPIATENESS, MIS-BEHAVIOR, ETC.
Application Procedures • Fill out application completely • Student type one-page essay • Include $125 donation in check made out to CVMS PTSA • Turn in Application to front office for Date stamp between 9/25-9/29 • Volunteer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Priority of Acceptance • Former SO Students who demonstrate commitment and parental involvement • Parental Coach Volunteers who are serious about coaching • Date stamp of application • Student commitment as demonstrated in their essay
