WIND ENERGY - Bhanu Bhushan -
Negative Features of Wind Energy • UNRELIABLE • UNPREDICTABLE • UNCONTROLLABLE • VERY LOW P.L.F. • Availability has no linkage with demand • Not amenable to scheduling, ABT and “open access”
Positive Features of Wind Energy • Perpetually renewable / inexhaustible • Totally “green”, after installation • Zero – variable cost Must be harnessed to the fullest extent, notwithstanding its negative features.
Two distinct ways of paying for Wind energy • At a flat, single – part Rupees/kWh rate for all energy injected • At system marginal price (a floating rate) i.e. U.I. rate
Not required in either case : • Availability prediction • Scheduling • Monitoring • Determination of deviation as long as linkage with larger grid is adequately sized.
Because of its small size compared to the size of the A.C. grid, fluctuations and other negative features have no adverse operational impact. • No commercial impact either, in second case. • Voltage fluctuation is a local issue, fully handled by Reactive charge scheme.
