Walton-Verona Elementary Best Practices and Goal Setting MAP
Assessment • All Students take the MAP Assessment for 1st grade through 4th grade in the Fall, Winter, and Spring for Reading and Math. • Kindergarten students take the MAP Assessment in the Winter and Spring. • 4th Grade students also take MAP Assessment for Science in Winter and Spring. • Teachers explain to students to give their best effort – “This is what I will use in order to teach you what you need. You don’t want to be bored and you don’t want the work to be too hard.” • Teachers and Administrators monitor students during test for Good Effort.
Assessment Results • Within a few days we receive our reports of student results. • Students receive immediate feedback of Scores. • Each student is given an individual Student Growth Goal from Fall to Spring or Spring to Spring based on their RIT Score. (Student Goal Setting Worksheet) • Each student will be given a RIT Band in which teachers and students then use to determine the areas needed to enhance, develop, and introduce student learning.
We Have Data – Now What? • As part of PLC, Teachers and Administrators go over class and grade level results to create best practices in order to meet student needs. • Teachers meet with students to show them their RIT Band and go over the areas that will help them improve and meet their growth goal. • Send growth goals home with areas to work on for improvement. • Teachers design lesson plans to meet the needs of each individual students based on their RIT Band. • ESS groups are created to meet the needs of individual students.
Goal Setting • Teachers meet with each student individually to go over growth goals and RIT Bands. • Students and Teachers are aware of the level in which the student is learning and what they need to study and master in order to meet their growth goal. • Students are excited about trying to meet their goals and become leaders of their learning. • Students earn incentives for good effort and/or meeting their growth goal. • Parent involvement at home to assist their children in meeting the goal.
Interventions • Core Extension time to meet the needs of each individual student in order to attain meeting their growth goals. • 30 to 60 minutes a day for three or more days a week of Core Extension to use multiple resources in order to create smaller group sizes with similar RIT Band groups. • Multi-Sensory Approach to learning.
DES CARTES • Des Cartes used as a catalog of RIT Bands and instructional topics that correlate to each RIT Band.
