  3. Appendaged waterleaf (Hydrophyllum appendiculatum) • Flowers are violet • 5 petals, 5 showy stamens • Flowers are perfect • Leaves are maple-like • Biennial life-cycle • 1-2 feet tall • Found in rich woods

Virginia waterleaf (Hydrophyllum virginianum) • Flowers are tubular • 5 hairy sepals • Flowers are violet, pink, and white • Perennial • Leaves have white spots on them • Leaves are up to 6 inches long and 4 inches wide and deeply divided into 3, 5 or 7 lobes with coarsely toothed edges and sharply pointed tips. • 1-2 feet tall • Grow among deciduous trees
