Ex: She is as quick as a fox. • Metaphor: Comparing two different things without using the words like or as. Ex: She is a fox. • Hyperbole: an exaggerated statement not meant to be taken seriously or literally, ex: "I have a million things to do today.” • Alliteration: occurs when a series of words in a row (or close to a row) have the same first consonant sound. For example, “She sells sea-shells down by the sea-shore” or “Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Peppers” are both alliterative phrases • Assonance: (also called vowel rhyme) is rhyme in which the same vowel sounds are used with different consonants in the stressed syllables of the rhyming words, as in “We see three bees.”
