In Sigma’s Reading Class… Routine Necessary Materials Binder Agenda PATTERNS book Class novel Pen/Pencil Reader’s Notebook (left in the room) • The First Ten Minutes • Do Now • “Imagine you are a dollar bill. Using the first person, describe what happens to you in the course of a week.” • Mini-Lessons • Guided Practice • Independent Practice • Homework (in agenda)

PATTERNS Book • In every class, every day. • Important to value and encourage independent reading. • Help students add books to their “Books I Want to Read” list. • Be aware of what they are reading, and the book’s content. • Take the student to a local bookstore or library so they are able to have time to peruse, and be surrounded by literature. • All students should have gotten a letter signed allowing them to sign books out of my library. If you don’t recall this letter I have extras.

  4. Reading • Independent Reading Log- • Title, Author, Genre, POV, Date Finished/Abandoned, Rating • 27 Independent Reading Books- this is our expectation by the end of the school year. (Yes, it’s possible!) • Reading Rate, Time in School, 20 Minutes at Home • Multiple Genres (fiction, nonfiction, fantasy, poetry, etc.) • Whole-Class Novels- ‘A’ Year • The Giver or Lord of the Flies • The Outsiders • The Book Thief or The Pearl • Illustrated Man or Stargirl • Twelfth Night or Literature Circle Choices
