  1. Watch your Speed! A frequent complaint highlighted through Neighbourhood Policing consultation with local residents this year to the Police is speeding in the Wolds villages. You will be glad to hear in that case that your local Beat Team shall be now concentrating their attentions to this area over the next 6 month period. However in addition to the Police taking enforcement against speeding on the A60 going through the villages of Cotes and Hoton, as well as monitoring traffic going through Wymeswold on the A6006 we want you the public to help us. We are inviting neighbourhoods, with the support of local Parish Councils in the area to get involved through the Community Speed Watch programme – an innovative concept developed in partnership between Leicestershire County Council and the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Road Safety Partnership supported by local Police. This campaign seeks to encourage drivers to slow down in areas which do not qualify for a speed camera, but where motorists still speed. It enables volunteers to work within their community to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding and to help control the problem – reducing death and injury on the roads and improving the quality of life for local people. So what’s involved? Volunteers will undergo basic training to use hand-held speed guns & vehicle activated signs for approximately 1 hour alongside basic conflict resolution techniques. Trained volunteers will then work at agreed identified locations within the communities in a team of approximately 12 people or more with designated co-coordinators. No attempt is made to stop the any moving vehicle and drivers will not be engaged in conversation. Logs of vehicles exceeding an agreed threshold will be completed and passed on to the Police. • Volunteers must be: • Over 18 years old • Ideally be versatile enough to be available on a regular basis (scheme only operates between 07:00 hours – 20:00 hours i.e. during daylight due to Health & Safety) • Have access to a mobile phone • Provide suitable contact details i.e a home telephone number / e-mail address • Interested? Either complete the application form attached providing contact details and forward these on to your Beat Officers: PC 718 Andy Houghton or PCSO 6647 Nigel Ritchie at Quorn Police Station, Leicester Road, Quorn, LE12 8ES or e-mail: Andrew.Houghton@leicestershire.pnn.police.uk.
