  3. Colin Powell When Martin Luther King Jr was eight years old Colin Powell was born on April 5, 1937 in Harlem, NY

  4. Colin Powell Colin Powell is the son of Jamaican Immigrants. Growing up in a tough neighborhood, Powell was educated in a public school system and went on to college of New York (CCNY)

  5. Martin Luther Martin Luther King Jr grew up in a time of segregation. He went to Morehouse college in boston. He also went to Boston University.

  7. Colin Powell Colin Powell was in the military. In 1957 , Dr. King, Ralph Abernathy , and other civil right's activists founded the southern christian Leadership Conference (SCLC).

  8. Martin Luther King Jr King believed that organized nonviolent protest against the system of southern segregation known as Jim Crow laws would lead to extensive media coverage of the struggle for black equality and voting rights.
