Case Study • This is a 20 year old college athlete who came down from a rebound by himself on the opposite end of the floor. He was wearing an ankle brace. He was 6’ 6” tall and weighed 215 lbs. He had a good health history and recent history of lower leg pain.
Shoulder Fracture • This is a 70 year old man very active who slipped on his way to work. Complained of shoulder pain and loss of motion. Upon admitttance to ER X-Rays revealed a fracture.
Bone stimulator • Several on the market. • When first introduced over 15 yrs ago had to be worn for 12 plus hours with no movement. • Today usually short usage..20 -30 minutes • Electrical and Ultrasound • Electrical use a magnetic field to induce bone growth • Ultrasound use a pulsed sound wave to induce bone growth
Cost factor: • Surgery to go back in and encourage bone growth…anywhere from 3000 to 10000 dollars plus rehab and follow up visit. Good for the doctor expensive for the patient • Bone Stimulator: • Anywhere from 3500 to 4500 very effective less risk of complications
