  1. Resource requests and allocations for the CERN T0/T1 center in 2003 + 2004 (preliminary, v1.0) Bernd Panzer-Steindel, CERN/IT

  2. Changes since last evaluation • ALICE DC shifted by 3 month into 2004 • ATLAS DC shifted by one year to April 2004 • Fine tuning of the CMS request • Resource request increase by LHCb ( GEANT 4) Bernd Panzer-Steindel, CERN/IT

  3. Bernd Panzer-Steindel, CERN/IT Jan 2004 Dec 2004 July 2003

  4. Bernd Panzer-Steindel, CERN/IT July 2003 Jan 2004 Dec 2004

  5. Plan Bto cope with resource over-allocation in Q2 • (a combination of one or two options is probably sufficient) • spread the load per experiment over a longer time period • shift one or two data challenges in time, forward or backward by 2-3 month • reduction of non-LHC resources by 50 % == 150 KSI2000 • add resources from the testbed, computing data challenge and LCG-x installations == 300 KSI2000 • add the base-line resource per experiment == 50 KSI2000 Bernd Panzer-Steindel, CERN/IT

  6. Purchasing strategy • New tender for disk and cpu server is out • fill the stores with enough equipment in October • install 2004 equipment end December or beginning of January Budget 2004 • 500 KSFr for new LHC CPU resources , 100 KSFr for replacement •  ~ 400 KSI2000 • 500 KSFr for new LHC disk resources , 100 KSFr for replacement •  ~ 40 TB • 500 KSFr for non-LHC investments • Possible problem • Decision is due on who pays for LHC tape storage in 2004 • estimated 600 KSFr If IT has to pay : extra budget ? or to be deduced from the 1.2 million Bernd Panzer-Steindel, CERN/IT

  7. Disk resources • this years delivery very late • installation has started this week • total resources per experiment • CMS 12.1 TB, ATLAS 12.6 TB, ALICE 6.1 TB, LHCb 7.0 TB • some extra resources available through LCG prototype • upgrade of WACDR in July, move to at least one server • per experiment, improved CASTOR – GRIDftp integration • re-discussion of the disk storage requirements for the experiments in the current COCOTIME round ~ 40 TB extra for 2004 Bernd Panzer-Steindel, CERN/IT

  8. Questions • Is the move from GEANT3 to GEANT4 causing the same • resource changes for all 4 Experiments ? • There are two in-efficiencies not yet considered :  Lxbatch cluster (LSF, IO wait, etc.) 0.8 ??  Experiment specific (crashing jobs, submission inefficiencies, etc.) 0.8 ?? • Memory size of the simulation jobs ( > 200 MB ??) Bernd Panzer-Steindel, CERN/IT

  9. Summary • No need to buy anything still in 2003 • Can cope with the physics DC’s in 2004 with a bit of • ‘re-arrangements/adjustments’ • More detailed discussions about disk space necessary Bernd Panzer-Steindel, CERN/IT
