2. Professional registration, regulation Anyone wishing to practise as a physiotherapist in the United Kingdom (UK) is required by law to be registered with the UK regulator for the health professions, which is the Health Professions Council (HPC).

3. Chartered Society for Physiotherapists Rules and standards Acceptable standards of professional conduct for student and chartered physiotherapists are given by the society in their Rules of Professional Conduct.

4. The primary role of the regulator is to protect the public and their registers are therefore open to the public so they can check their physiotherapist is registered. In order to gain registration, every physiotherapist is required to demonstrate they meet the HPC’s standards. The HPC sets Standards of Proficiency and Standards of Education and Training.

5. Standards What are the Standards of Practice? A collection of documents describing the professional consensus on the practise of physiotherapy for members of the CSP working in any occupational setting. The Standards reflect the collective judgement of the profession at a given point in time.

6. Core standards of Physiotherapy Practice These provide a framework within which all physiotherapists and associate members are required to practise.

7. Standards Cont./ These describe aspects of the physiotherapy service for which the organisation is responsible in order to maintain the safety and quality of services for staff and patients. These standards apply to all physiotherapy settings although some standards may not be relevant in some settings.
