LINX52Multicast is Go Brandon Butterworth
Nearly • Formal launch is Thursday http://www.bbc.co.uk/multicast/ • This preview is so you don’t get a surprise
Didn’t we do this already? • Olympics was some time ago, with a few sporting events since • ISPs been waiting too • Delay in agreeing rights • It is just cable TV • Still had to be worked through
Progress since August • Previous presentation is on http://support.bbc.co.uk/multicast • H264 8Mbit HDTV tested in Jan with early access STB, more trials in the summer • Other broadcasters now involved
Don’t panic • Technical trial so we expect things will not work and need fixing • We can add ISPs as we go, join in when you’re ready • Manage user expectation - most won’t get it yet
Formats • Video • Real, WM @ 360K • H264 @ 1.2M • MPEG2 @ 5M • Audio - AAC @ 128K
Multicast Trial Network • Standalone infrastructure, http://support.bbc.co.uk/multicast/peering/ AS31459 UK, AS34158 International - later, this is UK only for now • Dedicated LINX & LoNAP ports, PIs in Telehouse North if required. • UK only routes as per BBCi Broadband. • All welcome multicast-tech@bbc.co.uk
