  2. What is a form of legislation in response to slavery? • 13th amendment • Give one reason GA is not re-admitted to the Union at the end of Phase 1. • Black codes, Pres. Andrew Johnson is brought up on impeachment charges (Tenure of Office Act)

  3. What is the purpose of the 13th amendment? • Reinforce the Emancipation Proclamation- freeing slaves • Assumption- blacks=free=citizens=vote/representative/ • Have representation/protected by the law • Unfortunately the assumption was wrong

  4. What is the purpose for the 14th amendment? Reinforce citizenship privileges for blacks; direct response to black codes • Assumption-blacks =citizens=vote • Unable to vote due to KKK terroristic threats • Response of Congress- places Ga under military rule

  5. During which phase could Blacks run and hold political office? I, II, or III • 32 members in the house of representatives • However; during phase II white supremacy followers kick out 28/32 blacks in office • Justification-blacks could vote but not hold office (ain’t the same thing)
