Travelling to Antarctica: • Firstly, I strongly recommend that you travel to Antarctica in November ~ March. These are the seasons where the weather is not a fierce. • One way you could travel to Antarctica is via boat. This is the most common form and is most likely the cheapest method (depending on the travelling agency) but you can risk a few dollars to go by plane to get a mad view!
Travelling in Antarctica: • One very fun way for travelling around Antarctica is by snowmobile. This is a very exhilarating travelling method. • BEWARE! – This could be EXPENSIVE due to renting the snowmobile and buying the petrol! • P.S I hope you like the colour |;- )
Clothing for Antarctica: • Long johns in wool or polypropylene (top and bottom)) • Windproof Anorak that may have a fur lined hood. • Windproof trousers • Down overall style trousers • Down jacket • Sunglasses or goggles • Windproof hat with ear flaps over top • Gloves - a combination of thin polypropylene with wool gloves on top with large nose wiper. mittens on top. • For heavy outside work leather gloves are used • Windproof gloves or mittens may go over the top of the woollen gloves • Very thick woollen socks • Mukluks - large boots with heavy soles and leather padded lining inside.
Equipment for Antarctica:Depending on what you do, your equipment will vary. • first aid kit, including prescription medications • toiletries • wash cloth (optional) • sun-blocking lotion (SP15 or higher) • sun-blocking lip care (SP15 or higher) • camera & lenses • film • extra batteries • film shield bag • voltage converter & plug adaptor kit (ship is 220v and takes 2 round prong plugs) • binoculars (with good strong distance viewing, not opera glasses) • reading material • writing material • Mountain Travel-Sobek baggage tags, with cabin number • soft-sided suitcase or duffle bag • daypack
