Task Groups will create and present an Early Empires PowerPoint Presentation.
Purpose Students will learn about: governments geography economies and contributions of early empires.
Instructions Divide the class in groups of four. Group members each choose an empire. A. Sargon of Akkad B. Babylonia under Hammurabi C. Assyria under Ashurbanipal D. Persia under Cyrus or Darius
Instructions Groups gather information on the culture, government and economies of their empires. Groups will create and present an Early Empires PowerPoint Presentation.
Questions to Think About What was the name of the empire? Who was/ were the emperor(s)? Where was your empire located? How did the leaders of your empire treat citizens or conquered peoples? In what ways did your empire achieve wealth?
Questions to Think About What inventions or innovations were developed by the people of your empire? What did all of the empires have in common? What geographic features appear to characterize the Fertile Crescent?

Timeline for the Activity Students will be given three days to: Gather information Create presentation Practice presentation Students will give presentations on the last two days of the week.
Evaluation Students’ presentations will be evaluated using the rubric attached to the activity sheet.
