Goals of Peace Corps • To help the peoples of other countries in meeting their needs for trained manpower- technology transfer. • To promote a better understanding of the American people on the part of the peoples served. • To promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of the American people.
General Information • The Peace Corps Morocco program began in Morocco in 1963 • Current Number of Volunteers: 206 • Four Project Sectors: • Youth Development • Health • Small Business Development • Environment • Pre-Service Training: 10.5 weeks • Volunteer service: 2 years
Pre-Service Training (PST) GOAL: To deliver integrated training that reflects the realities of service of a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco. This will be achieved through: • A Community Based Training Approach (CBT) • An Enriching Homestay Experience • Self-Directed Training (SDT) • Interaction with Volunteers in the field
Youth Development • To provide youth, especially girls, local partners, and communities in Morocco with participatory educational opportunities to enable them to take educated actions to make positive change in their communities.
Hygiene and Sanitation Maternal Child Health • Hygiene and Sanitation project seeks to improve the quality of health among individuals, families and, communities in the rural areas through better access to safe water, sanitation facilities and good hygiene practices. • In order to improve women and children's health in rural areas, the Peace Corps / Government of Morocco collaborative Maternal and Child Health project seeks to improve their access to quality reproductive health services.
Small Business Development • Artisan communities will raise their living standards by making more informed economic choices
Environment • Rural Communities will raise their living standards through sustainable community initiatives that emphasize community development opportunities and natural resources conservation issues.
