19th Executive Committee Meeting of IEA LT IA June 14,15 2004, NAKA , JAERI Status and plans of ITPA Joint Experiments in FY2003-2004 on JT-60U M. Kikuchi for the JT-60 team
1. ITPA JEX implemented to JT-60U experiments in FY2003. No. 1-4 JEXs have been performed in FY2003.
TP-1 : Development of hybrid scenario demonstration dischargesSSEP-2 : Preparation of ITER hybrid scenario • bN~3 has been sustained for 6.2 s (2tR and 60tE) in low q regime (q95=2.2-2.5). • No large sawtooth was observed. • NTM disappeared due to outward shifted rational q surfaces by lowering q and/or flattening of pressure profile by off-axis heating. Frequency [kHz] NTM
PEP-8 : Parameter similarity studies in Quiescent H-mode regimesTP-5 : Improved physics understanding of QDB/QH-mode operationPEP-14 : QH-mode and QDB study using NBI and shape (JT-60U and DIII-D) • QH-mode was obtained with mainly CTR NB injection in JT-60U as in DIII-D. • QH-mode was observed in the density region of ne/nGW=36-58%. • Strong divertor pumping is not necessary. • Edge harmonic oscillation did not be clearly observed. • Pedestal pressure is lower in QH-mode than that in Type I ELMy H-mode.
PEP-1 : Pedestal characteristics • Pedestal dataset were obtained at Ip/BT=1.1 MA/3.1 T and 1.8 MA/3.1 T in the JT-60U/JET identity experiment configuration. • Pedestal pressure is smaller in JT-60U than that in JET for both cases. • The pedestal pressure increases in JT-60U when perpendicular NB is switched to negative ion based NB (Co-injection). • Toroidal rotation is a candidate for explanation of difference between JT-60U and JET. Ip=1.1 MA
PEP-3 : Comparative MHD analysis and predictive modeling of Type I & II ELMy H-mode • Systematic MHD stability analysis for JT-60U and JET discharges has been done. • More clear access to a second ballooning stability region was observed at improved pedestal performanceafter switching perp. NB to co-NNB. • Further analysis is necessary using improved measurements with better resolution at the edge.
