For more than 43 years, John Tyler Community College has been serving the community as a public two-year institution of higher education.
Enrollment Highlights • Over a four-year period, from 2006 – 2009, we saw a 35% increase in the number of students who came to Tyler during the fall semester. • The same time period saw a 43% increase in the number of FTES. • In fall 2010, we were the fastest growing College in the VCCS in FTES (11.8%) and second fastest in headcount (8.5%).
Service Region The College primarily serves the residents of the cities of Colonial Heights, Hopewell and Petersburg as well as the counties of Amelia, Charles City, Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Prince George, Surry and Sussex.

Pursuing an education at John Tyler Community College costs about one-third the tuition and fees of a Virginia four-year public college or university.
Midlothian Campus Science Building – LEED Silver Certified John Tyler Community College was awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certification for its Science Building. The College is the first in the VCCS to receive such a recognition.
Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (B.I.S.) – Degree Completion Program • Partnership with University of Virginia • Starts Fall 2012 • The B.I.S. program offers a liberal arts foundation with a concentration in business, humanities, social sciences or education • Students will have the option of coming to JTCC’s campuses to take classes • Designed for adults who want to complete an undergraduate degree on a part-time basis through evening and weekend classes • Program contributes to Grow By Degrees campaign goal
Guaranteed Transfer Agreements Guaranteed transfer agreements with more than 25 four-year colleges and universities in Virginia allow John Tyler graduates who meet certain criteria to seamlessly continue their educations.
Programs of Study The College offers 17 degrees, 7 certificates and 35 career studies certificates. Programs include engineering, nursing, accounting, funeral services, art, welding, Cisco network, homeland security, early childhood development, business administration and more.
Workforce Development The College works diligently to support workforce development in our community. On-Ramp Program: A program designed to assist those who are unemployed or underemployed obtain a college degree or certificate or industry-recognized licensure or certification. Community College Workforce Alliance (CCWA): A partnership between John Tyler Community College and J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. CCWA provides non-credit workforce education and training services to businesses and industries in the Greater Richmond area.
Our graduates define success, whether they transfer and continue their educations or immediately enter the workforce.
