AVID • What is AVID? • AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a national program in which participating schools work together to help students reach their academic and life goals.
AVID • AVID instructors have received intensive training in teaching techniques that actively engage their students in learning.

AVID Center Data • Students who spent at least four hours in the AVID Center have an 83% passing rate in their courses. • The overall retention rate for all of the AVID Learning Communities is 72.2%. • MHCC’s average retention rate is 73.5%.
TRIO-SSS • TRIO programs were the first national college access and retention programs to address the serious social and cultural barriers to education in America.
TRIO-SSS • TRIO Student Support Services is a federally funded college opportunity program.
TRIO-SSS It is designed to provide academic and ancillary support to low-income students, first generation college students, and students with disabilities.
TRIO-SSS • The goal of SSS is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants and facilitate the process of transition from one level of higher education to the next.

A Cuban refugee will take an academic boost from MHCC to Stanford Tuan Anh Tran Caraballo was a young Cuban refugee crossing into the United States with a little over $100 in his pocket. In September this year, Tran Caraballo will start classes at Stanford University with nearly a full-ride scholarship worth almost $60,000. The Oregonian 6-19-2013
Transitions/Transiciones • Transitions is a career planning and college preparation program for single parents, displaced homemakers or women who speak English as a second language.
Transitions/Transiciones • The program helps students develop a career goal, get to know the college and all its resources, make friends, and develop time management and study skills.
