  4. CLASSIFICATION SYSTEMS 1 GROSS FINE Large muscle movements Small muscle movements Major bodily skills associated with: Small bodily skills associated with: Strength Speed Endurance Accuracy Power Efficiency

  5. CLASSIFICATION SYSTEMS 2 OPEN CLOSED Affected by the environment (unstable) Not affected by the environment Externally paced (performer not in control) Self paced (performer has control) Predominantly perceptual (adaptations) Predominantly habitual Movement patterns must be adapted to Has a pre learned pattern of Suit the demands of the situation movement Has no definite beginning or ending Has a definite beginning and end

  6. CLASSIFICATION SYSTEMS 3 Serial Discrete Continuous Clear beginning and end A number of discrete skills No clear start/end put together to make a series Usually a single skill Repetition of the The order of discrete elements same skill is important The end of one movement is the beginning of the next

  7. CLASSIFICATION SYSTEMS 4 Self Paced Externally Paced Performer is in control over rate of action Performer is not in control Performer decides when to initiate the action Controlled by the actions of others Not governed by the actions of others More open skills More closed skills
