T-P-S Affecting the Hydrologic Cycle Ways in which the hydrologic cycle is affected • Water must move into the soil, think about things that may break this part of the cycle: • changes in the ability of soil to soak up water through increases of impervious surfaces, like roads and buildings, and removal of forest cover; • water withdrawals or impoundments (such as through wells or dams) • filling depressional wetlands; • and altering stream flows and beds.
Ground Water • Ground Water - water trapped, held, in the pores of rocks - the amount of water changes in the pores - the top edge of this water is called the water table • Water Table - low levels = Drought - high levels = oversaturation (leads to flooding) What are the current water table levels in our area? Why?
Salt Water Lakes • Started as fresh water - outlet to the sea was blocked - man made barriers (Human Environment Interaction) - naturally formed barriers (movement) • What feature houses most of the world’s freshwater?
