National Statistics System The NSS is a requirement by the Statistics Act To promoteco-ordination among producers of official statistics In order to advance the quality, consistency, comparability and optimum use of official statistics As well as to avoid unnecessary duplication.

Priorities in NSS “Business register” Business register is a list of all businesses Business register is the basis for economic statistics Business register compiled based on information received from SARS and Dti Quality of economic statistics depends on the quality of the business register Way forward: Collaboration between Stats SA, SARS and Dti to improve business registration information
Priorities in NSS “Dwelling frame” Dwelling frame is a list of all dwellings in SA Dwelling frame is the basis for household surveys and censuses Quality of household statistics depends on the quality of the dwelling frame Way forward: Development of the frame Update and maintenance of the frame Prerequisites: Standards and collaboration with partners especially with Local Municipalities & Metros, and the Post Office
