Background • 60 sites old DTN technology from 1996 to 2003 • 35 sites of new Weather Sentry technology • Stand alone sites not networked • Primarily at remote Maintenance stations that were dial-up to NDOT network.
Weather Sentry online • Service available January 10, 2006. • 15 accounts established • 3 pavement forecast sites. • Only six of the accounts were utilized
Advantages • Not tied to a fixed site • Accessible from alternate locations (home, other offices, wyfi) • Cost for increased flexibility less than paying for fixed system. • Added pavement forecasts that did not have from fixed system. • Rudimentary treatment options recommended
Challenges • Service initiated late in the season. • Communications, planning, training and documentation. • Acceptance of new technologies. • Procedures on verification on pavement forecasts • Treatment options did not have what if capabilities.
