General objectives • to implement principles of sustainable development • To create a local GA action group • provide information • to support the implementation of EU legislation at local level
Sustainable development reality • a "catalogue of existing policies“ • lack of political commitment but • has opened-up the possibilities and constraints of designing a policy for sustainable development (at least on local level)
Establish a clear territory for action Two methods: • Administrative delimitation (by authorities) • The “ink spot”initiated by • local authorities • local communities
The main criteria in defining a micro region is: • The ecological functionality
Good decision making mechanism To fight against: • Remains of mentalities specific to former regime • Decisions made outside the community • Remains of traditional decision-making mechanisms Important role of the local GA action group
Main areas of activities of the GA action group • Promote Local Agenda 21 • Sustainable development strategies • Develop good practices • Capacity building • Environmental Education
Transparency and clear methods Information in rural area represent: • power • Influence Ultimately the success resides in instituting a clear methodology to inform and involve people in decision making processes and development plans making this way the community to assert ownership over the whole process
Promoting new ideas, working for the interest of the community are activities usually not recompensed and rewarding on short term Uniting people who work in the same field Putting them in contact and letting them know that they are not alone Share successes and positive results Networking
