  1. Objective 12/06/11 Explain how landforms are created through erosional processes Intro How is erosion different from weathering?

  2. Erosional Landforms

  3. Erosional Landforms • Erosion • A gravity driven process that moves solids (sediment, soil, rock and other particles) from their source and deposits them elsewhere.

  4. Erosional Landforms • What causes erosion? • Mostly water and wind • Rain, snow, sleet • Ice, glaciers • Rivers, streams • Ocean waves

  5. Erosional Landforms • Rain, snow, sleet (weather) • Dissolves rock, freezes and expands rock, or washes rock away

  6. Erosional Landforms • Ice, glaciers • Sediment picked up into the glacier and carried

  7. Erosional Landforms • Rivers & Streams • Cut through the landscape, move rock from one place to another

  8. Erosional Landforms • Ocean Waves • Erode the shorelines of the land with power and force

  9. Erosional Landforms • Shoreline Erosional Landforms • Headlands • Sea Cave • Sea Arches • Sea Stacks • Wave Cut Terrence • Beaches

  10. Headlands

  11. Sea Caves

  12. Sea Arches

  13. Sea-Stacks

  14. Wave-cut Terraces

  15. Beaches

  16. Erosional Landforms • What happens to eroded rock? • Rock that is eroded is carried towards the ocean as sediment • Becomes sand • Becomes deltas • Becomes sea-bed

  17. Erosional Landforms • Ways to stop sand movement: • Groins • Jetties • Breakwaters

  18. Erosional Landforms (Groins)

  19. Erosional Landforms (Jetties)

  20. Erosional Landforms (Breakwaters)

  21. Erosional Landforms • Summary: • What is erosion? • What causes erosion? • What are some shoreline erosional landforms? • What are some ways to stop our shorelines from eroding away?

  22. Objective 12/06/09 Explain how landforms are created through erosional processes. Outro Using a Flow-Map, show how headlands can eventually become beaches.
