MODERNIZATION OF RAILWAY LINES The modernization of CFR SA’s railway infrastructure will enable the achievement of the following technicalparameters: • running speeds of160 km/h for passenger trains and of 120 km/h for freight trains • electrified double line • introductionof ERTMS and of traffic control systems. In this way, the railway infrastructure will be compliant with the technical parameters set down in the international agreements AGC, AGTC and TER.

Forecast benefits of the railway line modernization • Increase in the freight and passenger traffic • Decrease in the travelling time • Increase in the quality of the freight and passenger transport services • Decrease in the pollution caused by the railway transport • Decrease in the fuel consumption • Decrease in the operating costs • Decrease in the rolling stock and infrastructure maintenance costs.

THE HIGH SPEED RAILWAY LINE PROJECT PROPOSED FOR PUBLIC – PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP • The High Speed Railway Line is an integral part of the TEN-T comprehensive network as a sustainable solution for ensuring mobility at EU level • The extension of the Paris- Vienna high speed lineby means of the connection Vienna – Budapest – Szeged • Estimated value: EUR 11 billion • Status: Launching of the Prefeasibility Study proposed to be financed from SOP-T 2007-2013 or 2014-2020
