Ulla Boll turned 100 on April 2, 2013. To celebrate this auspicious occasion, her daughter Birgit Hare and Family hosted a celebration on April 13th. Flowers and cards soon starting arriving. On the big day there was much ‘fuss’ made as Ulla would say.
The dining table was laden with a Danish Smørrebrød – cheeses from Denmark, leverpostej made by Nicole, and many Danish recipes prepared by Birgit and Jane to celebrate Ulla’s native land.
100 balloons rested outdoors among palms and as red and white highlights inside. Florida’s weather was as beautiful as the tourist brochures advertise. Fresh Gulf shrimp, oysters, and stone crab claws from Captain Eddie’s lent a taste of Florida. American food of subways and wraps as well as potato and macaroni salads was offered. Bettina made a timeline chronicling major events in Ulla’s life and in the world. It is hard to grasp just how many changes Ulla has seen over a century of life.
This generation that spanned the 20th century and lives into the 21st century may have seen the most astounding progress in the human experience.
Time for a last sip of Cherry Heering and a final toast to Ulla’s 100th Celebration! How fortunate we all were to be able to share her memories and show our love. Thanks to everyone for the cards, warm wishes, thoughtful gifts and flowers. Thanks to those who were able to attend and to everyone who pitched in to make this a true celebration.
