  1. Lotus Diagram The lotus diagram is an organisation tool, one of the many thinking tools taught in Pacific rim countries and the USA.

  2. Lotus diagram The lotus diagram supports children in engaging in creative thinking and/or critical analysis as they explore new ideas. Children develop deeper understanding or knowledge by examining a variety of related areas, then breaking broad topics into components.

  3. Lotus diagram The steps involved are: Determine the topic to be studied and state it clearly. Write the main topic in the centre of the rectangle of the lotus diagram.

  4. Lotus diagram Brainstorm to prioritise the major topics or questions. Choose the best 8 Place each of the eight sub-topics in the rectangles surrounding the centre rectangle.

  6. Lotus diagram • This can be left as it is for some children – they find the answers to the questions and write in each box

  7. Lotus Diagram This could link to jigsaw – children could go away and be experts in one area, or groups/individuals could carry out enquiry-based learning for all areas Or – this could be used at the end of the topic to find out how much children now know and remember about an area of study This can be extended…

  8. Lotus diagram Transfer each of the sub-topics to its corresponding numbered rectangle and brainstorm or study more subtopics or applications.

  11. Lotus diagram The layers can open out into further layers, like the petals of a lotus flower. It can be used for all ages up to adulthood!
