As of July 27th, a new lead was installed in place of lead ‘E’, and the system was fully reassembled • During last week, the insulating vacuum system underwent a series of pumpdowns and purges with warm N2 • By this past Monday, the insulating vacuum had reached the mid 10-6 torr range and was ready for cooldown • The cooldown with LN started late Monday afternoon with the help of Alan Bross and other taking shifts around the clock • The LN portion of the cooldown is expected to be complete by Wednesday (today) midday • LHe cooldown and cold mass filling takes ~6 hours (to be complete by the end of the day today) – currently have 2000 liters of LHe on hand • The system will be allowed to stabilize at least through the weekend before training begins again next week Current Status and Plans
Other Info • Test data from the HTS lead manufacturer has been obtained for all of the HTS leads (data provides self-field critical current at 77K) • Some variation in the critical currents noted, but nothing that explains the behavior of the failed lead • Review of all training data on all HTS leads shows some voltage across two other leads (> an order of magnitude lower than the failed lead) • Lead ∆V will be closely checked at low current before starting training • The third Xantrex power supply to be used for training has been sent back from RAL and is now at LBNL • The second cold mass/shield assembly will be going into the vacuum vessel this week • Mechanical technician help being provided by LBNL at Wang for the assembly of the second magnet has been discontinued until FY13 due to budget constraints
