CASM – Evolution Challenges • CASM recognized as the leading initiative for ASM (G8) • Increased expectations and need to deliver! • 2006/2009 CASM Strategy: • Link to the MDGs • Clearer concept of ASM as a platform for local and regional socio-economic development • Clearer focus on: • A) Global/advocacy level • B) Regional/on the ground development activities • Prioritization of activities: • Fair trade • Gender • Large scale vs artisanal mining • Set up of a MDTF (2006) • Increased HR for CASM Secretariat • Need to: • Increase synergies with SMAG, partners and networks • Step up advocacy and fund raising • Long term role, sustainability and management?
