  1. Hello, my friends. For today: • Vocabulary Quiz 21 • QuickWriteon Fate • Is this really a love story? • Romeo’s Final Words • Review for Exam

  3. QuickWrite • Remember some examples of fate that work against Romeo and Juliet in Act V: • Friar John’s denial of entrance to Mantua • Balthasarbringing Romeo the half-truth • Romeo’s arrival at the tomb before the Friar • Juliet’s too-late awakening • Are these events purely coincidental or are they are “in the stars”? Does that make the ending more or less significant/powerful? Are Romeo and Juliet more or less pitiful or helpless if everything is out of their hands?

  4. Meet me in the middle… • QuickWrite Discussion • Remember back to our early discussion on R&J as a love story. Do you still think it is? If so, what amendments to that description would you make? What does it say about love? • If you could say this text is more about some other theme or human element, what would it be? Fate? Rivalry? Violence? Close-mindedness? Honesty?

  5. Romeo’s Final Words • Choral Reading: • 1st Read: Unison, for understanding • 2nd Read: Change reader at every punctuation • 3rd Read: Change reader at every end stop (;?!.) • As one voice, without lengthy pauses and with some expression. • Discussion: What did you notice? What jumped out? What ideas or images made an impression? • 4th Read: Unison

  6. Exam Review
