CREZ Optimization StudiesScenario 2 Jeff Billo RPG CREZ meeting 02-15-2008
Description • This solution creates two new 345-kV wind generation transmission systems which are separate from the existing system in west Texas • One 345-kV loop for delivering Panhandle wind • One 345-kV network for delivering Central and McCamey wind • Move some existing plants to new system by reconfiguring existing switch stations • Connection to the existing system only in eastern part of state RPG CREZ Meeting 02-15-2008
Goals • Find the least cost plan • Reduce loading on existing major paths RPG CREZ Meeting 02-15-2008
What It Looks Like • Overall wind curtailment is 1.7% RPG CREZ Meeting 02-15-2008
RPG CREZ Meeting 02-15-2008 RPG CREZ Meeting 02-15-2008
The Tally Panhandle Loop and Associated Projects • 563 miles new 345-kV double circuit lines • 156 miles new 345-kV single circuit lines • 23 miles rebuilding existing 345-kV line • 197 miles adding second 345-kV circuit to existing structures • Series compensation on 2 345-kV circuits RPG CREZ Meeting 02-15-2008
The Tally Central and McCamey Associated Projects • 809 miles new 345-kV double circuit lines • 200 miles new 345-kV single circuit lines • 236 miles adding second 345-kV circuit to existing structures • Series compensation on 5 345-kV circuits • 7 345/138-kV autotransformers • 19 miles new 138-kV single circuit line RPG CREZ Meeting 02-15-2008
The Tally Existing System Projects • Lamesa area rebuild (similar, but not the same as in the Five-Year Plan) • Loop Zorn-Austrop into Lytton Springs • Add second 345/138-kV auto at Whitney* • Add third 345/138-kV auto at Cagnon • Verde Creek-Bandera 138-kV line upgrade • Seguin-McQueeny 138-kV line upgrade • Ferguson-Wirtz 138-kV line terminal equipment upgrade • Big Spring-Chalk 138/69-kV upgrade • Big Spring-Midland East 138-kV line upgrade • Abilene South-Leon 138-kV line upgrade • Oklaunion-Bowman 345-kV line* • Add second 345/138-kV auto at Eagle Mountain • Eagle Mountain-Alliance-Roanoke 345-kV line terminal equipment upgrade * Identified in 2007 Five-Year Plan RPG CREZ Meeting 02-15-2008
