Why Plan? • You plan because you want to accomplish something, some goal – or avoid something; • Planning is a way to prepare for the future – “knowingly cooperating with, and influencing the future;” • Planning includes identifying problems and finding solutions – taking a thorough look at the current situation and thinking about implications for the future; • Planning offers the opportunity to do “first things first,” providing rationale for setting priorities; • Planning allows you to develop policies that address rapid growth or slow decline; • Planning educates and involves citizens and public officials about your needs and efforts necessary to provide for them.

Why Plan? • Look before you leap and avoid costly mistakes; • Planning helps you to understand where you are and what you must do to achieve goals; • Planning helps to save time, effort and money; • Planning helps you to serve the best interests of the community; • Planning helps to maintain a positive “quality of life;” • The planning process will show challenges and opportunities; • Planning offers the opportunity to coordinate development projects with each other.

OBJECTIVE San Antonio Planning Advisors, LLP (SAPA) is a diverse team of 9 highly experienced professional city planners – retired, semi-retired, and some still fully employed in the planning profession. Our objective is to apply individual and collective professional skills to improve communities in the San Antonio region. The Team can conceptualize, advise, develop, and assist in implementation of the vision of cities and counties within the region, and in evaluating private sector development projects.

  5. San Antonio Planning Advisors As a Team, SAPA would apply professional skills and expertise in assisting a local community with their planning needs. Assistance could be in the form of advice, direction or undertaking of an actual project. The Team has additional resources at its disposal, and can assist in research and mapping.

  6. What Would SAPA Do? Pick up planning-related studies and material for review and evaluation. Meet with city or county officials to discuss needs, issues and priorities for the development of a long-range planning program or strategy. Prepare report (“Plan for a Plan”) that includes recommendations for priorities in developing a long-term planning program for the city or county. Present “Plan for a Plan” to city or county officials for discussion and questions; Prepare resolution & schedule to carry out next steps.
