Lesson Objectives Students will understand the properties of air and air pressure Students will recognise how the properties of air impact on the ability of objects/animals/humans to fly Students will understand that there are four forces of flight Students will be able to describe how the four forces of flight counteract and assist each other Students will demonstrate their understanding of how to adjust features of a flying craft in order to minimise and maximise the forces of flight
Air Key concepts: • Air has mass, takes up space and is strong enough to lift an airplane. • Air pressure is affected by factors such as heat and altitude • Air pressure presses all surfaces in all directions Real world: • Takes up space when we blow up a balloon • Feel air pressure when descending/ascending in a plane, diving under water • Resources:

Lift Key concept: • Bernoulli’s Principle: When air speeds up, there is a reduction in pressure. Airplane wings are curved on top, flat underneath to take advantage of this.
