Nature of work • The largest group of workers in the health sector are those in the nursing occupations - nurses and nursing assistants. • The profession of nursing requires a spirit of service with dedication, love, tender care of the physically incapacitated, sick, injured, newborns, convalescing mothers, old persons and at times mentally deranged and sick patients. • Their training and education imparts knowledge and skill to work in hospitals, nursing homes, sanatoriums, schools, industry and private medical clinics.
Education and training • Licensed Practical Nurse- 1-2 years of college • Registered Nurse- 2-3 years of college • Advanced training- 4 years of college • Accelerated Nursing Program- 5 ½ years of training
Other qualiafations • With each training you must have hands on training and observation training.
Job outlook • Employment of registered nurses is projected to grow 19 percent from 2012 to 2022, faster than the average for all occupations. Growth will occur for a number of reasons, including an increased emphasis on preventative care; growing rates of chronic conditions, such as diabetes and obesity; and demand for healthcare services from the baby boomer population, as they live longer and more active lives
