  2. The gallbladder is a small pouch in a place just under the liver. The gallbladder stores bileproduced by the liver. After meals, the gallbladder is empty &flat, like a deflated balloon. Before eat’inga meal, the gallbladder may be full ofbile andapproximately the size of a small pear. Bile helps us digestfats. Sometimes, crystals in bile can clump together, forminggallstones. These can cause a great deal of pain, and may require surgical removal of the gallbladder.
