  14. Some Things to Think About • We are living in a global economy where you will most likely be competing for jobs with people from all over the world. • Technology is changing very fast and will impact the work we do and how we do it. • Most people will work in many jobs during their lifetime. • There will be jobs that some of you will work in someday that don’t even exist yet. • Information changes so rapidly that we will constantly need more education and training to keep up.

  18. Using Career Clusters to Find Your “Perfect” Job What is the best way to get the job you want? Do your RESEARCH and make a PLAN! Your plan will change over time, that’s ok. The important thing is that you always have a goal in mind and know the steps you need to reach your goal. Ok, let’s look at the key ingredients of the “perfect” job: #1 Find a job you LIKE. #2 Find a job you’re GOOD AT.   #3 Find a job that matches your work VALUES.   #4 Find a job that will BE THERE.

  19. Using Career Clusters to Find Your “Perfect” Job #1 Find a job you LIKE. Hey, you don’t want to wake up everyday dreading going to work, right? Wouldn’t it be nice to have a job that you not only like, but you LOVE? That’s what we’re talking about!

  20. Using Career Clusters to Find Your “Perfect” Job #2 Find a job you’re GOOD AT. After all, you want to keep your job and be successful at it. Figure out what key skills are needed in the job you want. There may be some skills that you don’t have yet, or need to work on. That’s ok – as long as you’re willing to put in the work to develop the skills you need.

  21. Using Career Clusters to Find Your “Perfect” Job #3 Find a job that matches your work VALUES. What are work values? They are things like: • Finding a job with a salary range that will let you live comfortably, or • Thinking it’s important to have a job that requires a lot of education, or • Having a job that offers flexible work hours. Stuff like that. These are factors that many people don’t consider but can really make or break whether or not you’re happy about your career choice.

  22. Using Career Clusters to Find Your “Perfect” Job #4 Find a job that will BE THERE. The world of work is changing so fast. Some jobs that exist today won’t be around in a few years. On the other hand, there will be jobs that you may work in the future that don’t even exist yet today. Luckily, there are people who research job trends and can tell you how likely it will be that a job will be in demand in the future. We call this “Job Outlook.” Who wants to spend lots of time and money preparing for a job just to find out that no one is hiring? Not you. You’re going to be smarter than that!

  23. Find YOUR Education Path Here’s one more thing to consider… If you don’t want to live in poverty, YOU NEED TO CONTINUE YOUR EDUCATION BEYOND HIGH SCHOOL. That’s just the facts. However, you have lots of options as to how you will continue your education: • Apprenticeship • Certification Program • Associate or Technical Degree • Bachelor Degree • Graduate or Professional Degree

  24. Find YOUR Education Path Be sure your career goals and your education goals are aligned! Keep in mind that your education will continue throughout your lifetime. For example, you may start with an Associate Degree after high school, work for awhile, and then go back to earn a Bachelor’s Degree as you re-evaluate your career goals.
