SATs Welcome to Year 6 ~ Summer Term In the next four weeks before S.A.Ts we will be continuing to revise specific areas of the curriculum and answer questions the children may have. We will be reviewing the revision work completed over the Easter holiday. Thanks for your support with this. S.A.Ts week will be from Monday 14th May to Thursday 17th May, with tests on every morning in the week. On some days the children will need to take more than one test. We will ensure that they have a suitable break between each test. During this week, it is incredibly important that the children are resting well, getting plenty of sleep, eating a sensible breakfast and bringing a snack to school. Your help in this area, is very much appreciated. Writing will take place the week beginning the 18th June and the Level 6 maths test will take place when arrangements are known. • Our main topic for this term, will be ‘Olympics’. • The children will: • work as a team to design the layout of an Olympic stadium, considering all of the amenities needed • design and build models • work within a budget, make pricing decisions and produce profit and loss accounts • design a menu for a Olympic catering outlet and cook a dish from the menu • produce advertising material to promote the Olympics • look at the history of the Olympics Olypmics Summer Term trips (Monday 21st May to Friday 25th May) Our school journey to Mersea Island is almost here. It will be a great reward for the hard work and effort the children have shown throughout the year and during S.A.Ts. Fingers crossed for good weather. Our Year 6 ProductionA highlight of Year 6 is the chance for the children to perform to the school and parents as a farewell to Kyson. This year, the production will be ‘Joseph’ which is fun-filled for the children and audience alike. Throughout the term we will be preparing for this event. The dates of the performances will be announced on a newsletter. Sex Education During this term the children will be learning about changes to the human body (Puberty) and the role of relationships. An overview of the scheme of work will come home to all parents and you will be invited to watch the videos the children will see in the second half of this term. From half term we will be starting to prepare the children for the transition to high school. We will talk about our worries and excitement about the move and giving the children opportunities to reflect on their time at Kyson. Part of the transition to Farlingaye includes collating a bank of work for the high school, which demonstrates how well the children work and learn. Looking to the future...
