  2. An exchagestudentfromHungary… • I am Edina Prokaj, 18 years old and I am from Hungary. • I live in Egerszolat. Egerszólát is a small village in Heves county, in the north-eastern part of Hungary, west of Eger. It is located in Eger wine region and is famous in Hungary for its white wine called 'EgerszólátiOlaszrizling'.

Hungarian National Rural Network (HNRN) • The task of Hungarian National Rural Network is to organize a network of all parties interested in rural development that means the organization of a network of interested governmental, local government and civil contributors, business and social organizations, professional bodies, as information and cooperative network, and the harmonization of its activities. Thematic fields(eg.) • Renewable energy • Crop farming • Rural heritage • LEADER

LEADER program in Hungary • The LEADER programme provides tools for the communities themselves, who -more than anybody- are aware of their needs and are willing to implement the long-term development objectives of their own inhabitancies. • It enables the residents of smaller settlements to decide on the changes of their own immediate environment.

Founding • Between 2001 and 2004 fourteen Local Action Groups were sponsored with 25 million forints. • Then between 2004 and 2006 there were 70 sponsored groups out of the 186 applicants for the LEADER+ Programme. • The 6.7 billion forints of subsidy was shared between 960 settlements and 1.6 million inhabitants after local invitation of tenders.

  7. LOCAL ACTION GROUPS IN HUNGARY The action groups covered only 1/3 of the country’s territory. The registration process of the Local Action Groups started in the autumn of 2007, and 12.000 organizations registered. 96 Local Action Groups were declared winner on the 26th of September 2008. These groups cover the whole rural area of the country with all its 3020 settlements, and they are eligible for 128 billion forints of development fund until 2013.

Location EGER VIDEK KINCSEI LAG(RuralTreasures of Eger) • Hungary is subdivided administratively into 20 regions which are the 19 counties (megyék, singular: megye) and the capital city (főváros): Budapest. These are further subdivided into 173 subregions (kistérségek), with Budapest comprising its own subregion.
