The second most populous and one of the most beautiful historic cities in Northern Hungary z The exact date of foundation of Eger is unknown, but St. Stephen, the first king of Hungary (1000-1038) founded an episcopate here during the first years of the millennium. It is a significant educational and cultural center with many world-renowned museums and monuments, among them the castle. The Eger wine region is the center of one of the most significant Hungarian wine producers. The most famous red wine of the area is also known as Bull's Blood.
