Analysis by OWG Focus Areas • Stakeholder proposals identified for each of the OWG’s 19 focus areas, under sub-themes. • Relevant, concise and representative snapshot - a range of sub-themes, regions and stakeholders. • Does not include ‘official post-2015 process inputs’: High Level Panel of Eminent Persons on Post-2015, Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and UN Global Compact(all well known to OWG). www.sdgseinventory.org
How can it help you? How can it help you? • Ideas and examples to develop your own goals & targets. • What’s everyone else up to? • Who could you partner with? • Can you bring indicators to the table? • Develop your advocacy campaign around your GTIs: • SD2015 programme’s post-2015 Advocacy Toolkit to be published in May: www.SD2015.org
Headline message examples • FA1: Poverty eradication: Cross-cutting targets rather than dedicated goals - suggests a more multi-dimensional approach than the MDGs?? • FA5: Gender equality and women’s empowerment: Primary importance to stakeholders. Many address specific sub-issues e.g. violence against women, participation of women and girls in society, access to services… • FA13: Sustainable cities and human settlements: Fewest proposals with clear targets & indicators. One in particular provides very detailed targets. Strong link between cities and infrastructure exhibited by almost all. • FA17: Ecosystems and biodiversity: Proposals broadly address multiple interrelated issues, or focus on a specific issue such as forests. A number reference the UN CBD’s 2011–2020 Strategic Plan for Biodiversity, including the Aichi Targets - the starting point for a new global goal??
Cross-cutting issues Cross-cutting issues In order to be comprehensive, GTIs should acknowledge cross-cutting issues:
Making targets measurable • e.g. Focus area 1. Poverty eradication • “Implement progressive and redistributive taxation...” • versus • “...people living with less than $1.25 a day to fall to no more than 3 percent globally by 2030.”
