  3. Literal vs. Figurative • Literal language means what it says. • Amelia Bedelia is very literal. She always does exactly what the words say.

  4. Figurative Language • Ms. Garcia gave me a thousand pages of homework. (It really means; Ms. Garcia gave me a lot of homework.) • Chill out! (It really means; relax.)

  5. Figurative Language Examples • That test was a piece of cake. (It really means that the test was easy.) • I am dying of thirst. (It really means that you are really thirsty.)
