Recent B Physics Results from CDF Using up to 220 pb-1 of data • Masses and lifetimes • A prelude to CP measurements • Rare decays • Observation of the state X(3872) • Hadronic B decay final states are collected with the displaced track trigger • Bs mixing channel • Access to CP angles  and  Robert Harr, Wayne State Univ.

  3. B Hadron Masses • Competitive measurements for Bd and B+: M(Bd) = 5280.300.920.96 MeV and M(B+) = 5279.320.680.94 MeV • World’s best measurements for Bs and B: M(Bs) = 5365.501.290.94 MeV and M(B) = 5620.41.61.2 MeV Robert Harr, Wayne State Univ.

  4. B Hadron Lifetimes • Check Bd and B+ lifetimes against BaBar/Belle measurements. (Bs) = 1.330.140.02 ps and (B) = 1.250.260.10 ps • Competitive with LEP results. Will improve with statistics. • See talk by Daria Zieminska. Robert Harr, Wayne State Univ.

  5. Rare Decays • New limit for B.R. of Bs+-:< 9.5 x 10-7 @ 90% CL< 1.2 x 10-6 @ 95% CL • Limit on B.R. of Bd +- about a factor of 2 worse than BaBar and Belle. • New limit for B.R. of D0 +-:< 2.5 X 10-6 @ 90% CL • See talk by Cheng-Ju Lin. Robert Harr, Wayne State Univ.

  8. X(3872) • New state observed by Belle in B XK J/ +-K final state of narrow width. • Tevatron: this state produced directly, or via B decays. • CDF observes this state at the same mass. • Belle reports that M( ) distribution suggests a  resonance. • CDF sees a preference for M( ) > 500MeV  needs to be finalized!   9. X(3872) Signal Significance with without • Fit with and without a Gaussian for the X(3872) yields a significance of more than 10. • Note relatively large cross section (times branching fraction) compared to the (2s). Robert Harr, Wayne State Univ.

What is X(3872)? • Two leading candidates: • A ccbar state  like the 1 3D2 state • D*D molecule (suggested by Belle) • Observed mass is a few MeV below threshold • Xc is not yet observed by Belle • XJ/  forbidden for 3D2 state • Additional measurements to pin down the quantum numbers: • Helicity angles • M distribution (resonance structure) Robert Harr, Wayne State Univ.

  11. Bh+h'- Decays Bd BdK BsKK BsK • Bd and BsKK modes are sensitive to CP angle . • B(d,s)K and above modes are separated statistically by kinematics and particle ID. • B(Bd)/B(BdK) = 0.26±0.11±0.055. • First observation of BsK+K-. Robert Harr, Wayne State Univ.

  12. BdD-+ • MC templates used to fit mass spectrum. • BDK is another mode of interest for CP analysis. Robert Harr, Wayne State Univ.

  13. BsDs-+ • BsDs-+ is a potential mode for measuring xs. • Fully reconstructed mode for minimal uncertainty in the boost of the Bs. Robert Harr, Wayne State Univ.

Summary • Progress with CDF Run2 analyses: • Traditional: masses, lifetimes, rare decays. • CDF has observed the X(3872). • New topics enabled by the displaced track trigger are being explored: hadronic CP modes, and hadronic modes for Bs mixing. • New charm and bottom production cross sections  Chunhui Chen. • Tagging studies  Ting Miao. • Future prospects  Petar Maksimovic.
